IRA Gift Opportunity Extended

Congress has extended through 2009 the law permitting persons 70 ½ or older to directly transfer up to $100,000 from an IRA to a qualified organization such as Brethren Village. The transfer is not tax deductible, but will qualify towards your required minimum distribution and gift amounts will not be included in the donor's taxable income.

In the coming year, Brethren Village is expected to provide $1.9 million in benevolent care to residents on our campus who have exhausted their personal assets- leaving them in need of financial assistance.

Government programs, such as Medicaid, financially assist but do not pay the entire cost of the care and services provided. Our charitable resource, the Good Samaritan Fund, provides for this care. We need your help and support to replenish these funds as the need continues to grow annually.

If you are considering a gift from your IRA, we suggest that you first consult your financial advisor or IRA trustee to determine how this provision fits into your overall charitable giving objectives. Transfers for 2008 must be completed by December 31, 2008.

If you would like additional information on supporting Brethren Village's ministry, please contact Joanne Stehr at (717)581-4316 or e-mail joannes@bv.org.
