Warming the World: One Person at a Time

Employed at the Village since 1981, Mary Jane Sauder, Accounting, has seen the campus community change before her very eyes. From Founder’s Hall to the Welcome Center, her years of valued service have contributed to the advancement of the Village.

Always wanting to “make a difference,” Mary Jane has spent her time on and off our campus touching the lives of those around her.

A contributor to the East Petersburg Mennonite Church Sewing Circle, Mary Jane saw an opportunity to reuse, redo and renew the bedspreads from the old healthcare center. Due to the opening of The Courtyards, Residents received new bed linens, leaving the old bedspreads without a home.

With her skill and talent, Mary Jane is cutting the bedspreads into patches and sewing them together in her new designs.

She has already made nine, twin-sized comforters. These comforters are then given to the Sewing Circle, who will put a backing on them, tie-knot them, and ship them out through the Mennonite Central Committee to aid in world relief efforts.

With dozens more left to complete, Mary Jane is excited about her contribution to helping those in need by stating, “My hope is that I can keep someone else in the world warm.”
