Programs and resident activities.
The Therapeutic Recreation Department offers a wide range of programs for all residents of the Village by encouraging everyone to attend and participate solely or in organized clubs and groups to fully maximize retirement living. Whether tending to plants in our resident greenhouse, or playing water volleyball, various activities happen daily at the Village to keep all our residents healthy, and happy.
Some of our most popular resident interests include:
Green Thumb Society The society operates two, resident-run greenhouses on campus including managing and facilitating outside, resident gardens across the grounds of the Village. Many Society members have vegetable and flower gardens which they choose to plant and maintain.
Brethren Village Auxiliary The church-volunteer run Auxiliary serves the Village in various capacities from organizing annual fundraisers such as the Holiday Bazaar. Crucial to the success at Brethren Village, the Auxiliary has income sources streaming from the Gift Shop, Village Store, Thrift Shop, Memberships, Donations and various other happenings. From new projects to ongoing campus improvement efforts, the Auxiliary is always welcoming to new residents and friends of the Village.
Village Library The Village Library, managed by the Brethren Village Auxiliary, operated on a self-service basis. Located on the first floor of the Village Center on campus, the library has extensive fiction, non-fiction, local and national historical book collections. Magazines and books are available for check out and library services extend into residents homes by use of the Bookmobile of Lancaster County Library.
Craft & Art Room The Craft & Art Room at Brethren Village, located on the ground floor of the Village Center, provides residents therapeutic means to express themselves through needlepoint, quilting, paintings, ceramics, crafts, and various artwork projects. Scheduled monthly, a variety of fun, innovative and enjoyable programs are offered for residents.
Therapy Pool The Village offers residents the use of an indoor heated pool and whirlpool available for year-round use, located on campus between Assisted Living's Village Manor and Oakwood House. Lap and open swims are available, along with aquatic classes, recreational activities such as water volleyball, and resident synchronized movement and swimming groups called the Silver Mermaids and Grey Mermaids.
